With prom season just around the corner, state leaders are already talking about ways to further combat underage drinking. Some say extending a law that tracks the purchase of kegs could do just that, but, has the keg registration law really stopped underage drinking? Not everybody thinks so. Our Casey Bortnick has more.

Nebraska’s First Lady Sally Ganem spoke to a group of concerned citizens, along with a panel of law enforcement and civic leaders, at North Platte High School on Monday. Ganem discussed underage drinking and said she believes that education is the key to preventing underage drinking, but that the education must start with the adults.

Troopers Thomas Hathaway and Shawn Paa made what a State Police press release called “one of the easiest DWI arrests of their careers” early the morning of March 27. The troopers were issuing a traffic ticket to a motorist on Clinton Street in the Town of Elma when another car pulled up and parked behind their patrol car. New plans are in the works this year to prevent drinking and driving during Fiesta. Last year, there were 54 DWI arrests during Fiesta on the third traffic shift. The city is hoping to lower that figure.
